Cakes in a Cup!

I did this because of this sudden rush of inspiration!!! Its a teaser poster design for my Uni’s ball. Just a rough sketch. I think its pretty awesome though for a one day’s work

Food - a man needs his muscles....whoops I mean MUSSELS!!!

Alright, along the infamous Brunswick St, lies a small shop next to Dangerfield! Haha I had to mention Dangerfield because it’s one of my boyfriend’s favourite place to shop. He likes the style of clothing there. Though, he never buys anything in the end because it is beyond his budget range. (he still insists on stepping in every once in a while)

This place sells what we call pintxos. These are certain bar snacks which in my opinion, somewhat resembles a bruschetta. They are famously eaten in nothern Spain and in the Basque country. Also, it is said they are related to Tapas.
Naked for Satan is literally a bar. But for  80cents per piece of pintxos for lunch, who can resist?!?! I hopped on the tram and head out!

Right, you can see here on the plate I took clockwise from left : Fried rice balls on cream cheese, Seafood and carrot with flying fish roe, Ham terrine with Dijon mustard and Mushroom with carrot puree.
The Fried Rice balls are too hard for my liking. And because it’s cold, it didn’t go too well for me. I loved the mushrooms I gotta say. It was fresh and the carrot puree gave its sweetness. Of course the ham terrine was pretty much tasty as well.

Grapefruit, Chinoto, Blood Orange

Yeap, each of us had a go with drinks. Chinoto (an Italian version of Coke) had a pretty weird after taste. And I took the classic blood orange authentic yes!!!

On the top left, you see prawns with capsicum, wagyu bresala and on the right, quiche!!! – All were very yummy yes.
And I leave the focus to you – Smoked salmon with pickled onions (they were my favourite!!)

The “other” eggplant…. Hahah with goat cheese this time! I like the eggplant but the goat cheese is a tad bit too strong for me.

At last, we end the post with the picture of the day (above) Me, holding the sexy menu. PS : every menu has a different picture!!! Which is awesome!!!

RMB cafe, the very first cafe as you turn left into Degraves St. RMB seems like the short hand for remember, haha which I was pretty much used to. Nonetheles, I took the liberty to check out what does it actually mean. And WALA, RMB stands for Real Moment Beyond. Which sounds kinda dumb in my opinion. What the hell does Real Moment Beyond suppose to mean? Nevermind, one bright and sunny afternoon, I head out to have lunch and this was the cafe I decided to pop my ass in!

I ordered a Smoked Salmon Focaccia sandwich. I’m a huge fan of salmon! So i basically eat salmon with anything. It is hard to appreciate a salmon sandwich when you love eating salmon by its own.

Yea, when in Aussie, almost any main you order has to be accompanied by chips!!! The chips wasn’t as satisfying as it looked. However, I loved the sandwich. They had all the sauces, veges and meat balanced. Every bit I took felt like had the consistency of the right amount of everything in it! I was very much satisfied. I would definitely go back to have more.

As you can see, the salmon is not TOO thin and they weren’t stingy at all! I must add that the focaccia bread was really good as well! Nice crust on the outside and soft inside. Gave me the extra crunch eating which was pretty A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! yums!

Cappucino Goodness

I tried the cappucino and although I always usually have a Latte instead, this cappucino actually changed my mine otherwise! Loved the chocolate powder on top. To be frank, I really enjoyed this coffee more than the ones I’ve had in Sensory Lab

On the plus side, its cheaper

The lighting was really good that day, I didn’t need to use any flash and the white balance was perfect. Though, i still gotta work on my exposure and pay more attention to my histograms (which I’m still trying to figure out) I hope I am actually improving in my composition. There were a few photos which I took of the Cappucino from an above angle and it because it was such a big cup, it made it look like it was a flat cup! I was trying to capture the whole of the coffee art without making the cup look too short! This was the best shot I had and I think its pretty awesome!!

PS : If you feel like having a good cheesecake after, just walk over to the Quarter cafe. Try their mixed berry cheesecake! Its full of cheese GOOoooOOodness.

This place, Shou Sumiyaki was recommended by a friend of mine down @ 130 little Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC. Along china town, a corner shop famous for their Japanese BBQ!!!
After 2 years of studying together (all of us are doing the same course here at Monash! – Its Pharmaceutical Science you idiots, not PHARMACY!)  we needed a night out together!

Alright, first of with starters! We had…. Tofu, Ebi tempura, Tori no tatsuta age (fried chicken bits) and the highlight of the night, *drum rolls*…….. Wagyu beef yukke!!!

Whats that, you ask?? Its marinated raw wagyu beef with quail egg. And it is DE-LI-CIOUS!!! It was my first time ever eating raw beef and it was the best experience ever!! I think everyone agreed it was the best thing that happened to us at the end of the night  

And then…screw vegetables!!! We were full on meat!!! So here was the line up :

• 3 pork bellys
• 2 Wagyu rumps
• 3 Oyster blade wagyu cut
• 2 ox tongue cubes

The meat is so fresh and so so so good. Between the wagyu rump and oyster blade cut, I would highly recommend the oyster blade one. Its thinner and much tastier. You cook your meat mostly, which is the best thing ever!!! Though, you’d be guided on how to cook it. But, it will always be up to you. EAT your MEAT howYOU want it!!! That’s the way to go!

We were feeling a bit of Katty Perry that night. We had two bottles of sake. One hot and one cold. Hot n Cold  Two 350 mL shared between 5 people. To be quite honest, the cold sake – Nanburyu Tezuki Daiginjo – is really good. Its smooth, and gave the slight sweetness to it. however, I loved the warm sake that I ordered. Too bad i forgot the name of it

Dinner ended well with 5 satisfied tummies. It costs us about 54.00Aud pp which is quite reasonable considering we’ve ordered 2 bottles of sake. Imagine if we left that out, would’ve been cheaper!!! :O
Though dinner was over, we still had room for deserts! Unbelievable! Haha, but tonight was really the only night all of us (girls) had managed to get together, sit and eat properly. Plus, it was awesome food!!!

And now for dessert, we moved over to PassionFlower @ 168 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. Yes, we had so much passion for the night, didn’t we??? It was freezing cold ( 7 bloody degrees and its not even winter yet! – why Melbourne? ) and we still made our way, walking over to Passionflower to have some tantalizing deserts! They’re known mostly for their funky ice cream flavours. Well, honestly I wouldn’t say its funky but to the locals perhaps.
We opened up our menus and we literally couldn’t decide! Haha! But the fact we were so psyched about desert, it compensate for our undecided minds!
We settled for chocolate orange waffle and a sundae called “Black Pearl” Why, Jack Sparrow, there ain’t no rum here! Its black sesame ice cream with peanuts and black sesame itself! Wow! awesome stuff!!!

Later in the night, we were joined by another! And this was what she ordered. Ice cream flavours were black sesame and durian! Haha, forgive me for the black sesame spam! Its just kinda my fav ice cream flavour for now

Ahhhh what a night! what an awesome Friday night!! To think that today is Friday the 13th!!! But heck, we girls had a pretty good time!!!
